Omni Disk Sweeper Might be the ugliest app in the world….

Uncategorized

But man did it ever saver me today. I had install Ubuntu some time ago on my MacBook Air, somewhere along the line I deleted it, but now I can’t seem to reclaim that missing space. I know I’ll have to reformat eventually but I’ve sort of been avoiding it as I only have one computer right now.

This disk sweeper program basically just shows you where everything is on your computer and lets you trash anything that is clearly useless. This is particularly useful if you, like me, find your self with very little space and no idea what’s using it all up. (You know you have 3.2 GB of printer drivers….)

Give it a try, it’s pretty cheap and in my book well worth it.

So today I found a new place to do my yuppie coffee shopping here in Fredericton. It’s called Crumbs, not very well lit, but there is dedicated customer internet so that’s something. It also looks like the regularly have live music, which could be interesting. It think this place has a slightly less corporate feel to it in general, so for now this will be my Tuesday and Thursday home.

In other news I’ve been making a lot of head way with the iPhone SDK and hope to release an app soon. It’s a Todo application, there are already quite a few of them out there but most are lacking in certain functionality that I hope to encorporate in mine. More on that later.

I’ve got a meeting with Josh Merchant via phone about doing some work over at Spheric, no idea what that will entail but I look forward to working with Josh again, and doing some web stuff which is always fun.

That’s it for now.

cheers.

Perhaps I’ll blog more ?

Uncategorized

I just downloaded flock, the social web browser… It appears to allow me to post blogs from the browser. It also integrates with all my favorite social apps (FB, Twitter et al) so watch out lame tech blog-o-sphere, joe may post a lot more.

In other news, my NSERC application is on the go just about finished hopefully it’s well received (read: I get free money). I’ve got a few iPhone apps on the go: a refined Todo app that has a few of the more standard features you’d expect to see, also a workout tracking app, and a simple integer base converter, pretty neat stuff.

I think that’s about it… Hopefully I’ll get better at this stuff.

A little tuesday morning self righteousness.

Uncategorized

So this morning I was watching CNN and I saw something somewhat amazing, well maybe not depending on your outlook I suppose. In any case, growing up in north america I was often told when not wanting to eat some particular vegetable there were starving kids somewhere in the world who would love my broccoli. With that in mind the particular CNN news story was talking about a village in Burma that could no longer grow food because their land had be devastated, there were clips of some Burmese people looking bummed out, and one guy commenting that he knew they were going to starve to death. That being a big enough bummer as it is, CNN then cut to its hourly “Gas prices are real real high in the US” (which they really aren’t compared to anywhere else in the WHOLE WORLD). I just couldn’t believe the segue, from a horrifying story about people dying WITHOUT FOOD, to a bunch of whiny people complaining about it being expensive to go on holidays… Man we have it rough… .Joe

So I suck at Blogs

Uncategorized

Well I’ve been home to Calgary for about 2 weeks, and have started work. The term finished up nicely our project won an award in fact, so that’s something I suppose. In more recent news I am working at Telvent for a month, doing gawd awful boring work fit for monkeys… but the pay is decent so that’s something I suppose.Work on the project with paul is about to start picking up, as well as my work with CF so this is shaping up to be one hell of a summer.I will try and be more diligent on this, though I doubt anyone is really reading… so there you are. :P.joe

Issues with voice controlled house, now I get why communism fails.

At present very few things are working…I’ve learned one of the cardinal problems in managing other people, and that is: if you have no way to motivate people, they won’t due work. The long and short is, our project is due in two days and we are only now doing integration testing… surprise surprise things aren’t working. It’s a wonder people make it all the way to 4th year engineering and still leave everything to the last second. In any case, I see my self not sleeping much in the next few days. The current issue is getting RS-232 communication functioning in a reliable way…I’ll let you know.  .joe
